The M-series processors from Apple mark a shift in processor architecture that has a serious impact on application compatibility. Upon launch, a lot of applications were not updated to support the new architecture, and as a result created a poor user experience. The technology has now matured, and most applications have been updated to support the newest Apple Silicon chips.
While most of, if not all applications students are expected to use at UTD are now supported, there may be other applications that are not yet compatible with the new Apple Silicon. Research any major compatibility issues before purchasing a Mac with an M-series process.
