The Office of Information Technology UNIX group has provided a simple script that will fix permissions on all of the files in your public_html folder at once. Users will be able to fix their permissions issues with the instructions provided in this article.

Overview

This article details troubleshooting steps for some common issues that occur with UTD hosted personal web pages. The Office of Information Technology Linux Team has developed tools to aid users with issues pertaining to personal web pages.

Note: While OIT can assist with issues pertaining to hosting of personal sites, the debugging and troubleshooting of code is the responsibility of the site owner.

Fix Permissions Issues

Many issues related to page visibility and content loads on personal web pages is related to incorrectly set permissions. The OIT Linux team has developed a script that will automatically set the permissions of all personal site files so that they may be served correctly.

  1. Connect to Giant via SSH.
  2. Enter the fixmywebsite command.
  3. The script will list all the files it will modify and ask for permission.
  4. Verify that your website is fixed by going to https://personal.utdallas.edu/~NetID.
