How to Clear New Teams Cache

This article explains how to reset your cache in the new Microsoft Teams.

Context

Recently, Microsoft Teams revamped into what we know as New Teams. With this update comes a new way in which to clear your cache through the app. Listed below are methods to clear your cache.

Reset App

Note: When you reset the Teams app, the app data will be deleted. This includes any personalization settings that you might have configured.
  • Type "Settings" in the Window Directory, then select the Settings app from the results.
  • Select Apps > Installed apps, and then type "Microsoft Teams" in the search box.
  • Locate and open the New Microsoft Teams app from the results.
  • Select the Advanced options icon.

  • Under the "Reset" section, select Reset.

Delete Files

If Teams is still running:

  • Right-click the Teams icon on the taskbar and select Quit.
  • Open the Run dialog box by pressing the Windows logo + R key together.
  • In the Run dialog box, enter the path bellow, then select OK.
    • %userprofile%\appdata\local\Packages\MSTeams_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalCache\Microsoft\MSTeams
  • Delete all files and folders in the directory.
  • Restart Teams.

Clear Cache in Teams (macOS)

If Teams is still running:

  • Right-click the Teams icon in the dock > select Quit or press Command (⌘)-Q.
  • In "Finder", open the /Applications/Utilities folder > double-click on Terminal.
  • Enter the following commands, and press Return after each command:
    • rm -rf ~/Library/Group Containers/UBF8T346G9.com.microsoft.teams
    • rm -rf ~/Library/Containers/com.microsoft.teams2
  • Restart Teams.
