The Office of Information Technology have selected a new data protection solution called Rubrik. This solution will replace the current solution and offer better protection proficiencies across the vast UTD infrastructure. Over several months, the Office of Information Technology will migrate all protected workloads to the new solution allow the existing solution to expire. Once all systems are converted to the new solution, the original solution will be retained for 1 month to allow data to expire. The Office of Information Technology staff will work with system owners to configure the new system and test as applicable.

After the initial deployment, Office of Information Technology will start an initiative to evaluate and protect cloud environments such as AWS, M365, and Azure. The Office of Information Technology will collaborate with the Office of Information Security to evaluate an additional feature to proactively monitor potential Ransomware activities in the systems being protected by Rubik. In collaboration with system owners, the Office of Information Technology will also start to periodically test both File and System restores throughout the year to meet system expectations and Organizational audit requirements.

“The OIT-Infrastructure Team is excited about moving data protection to Rubrik. This new platform will propel UTD forward as OIT moves to a Hybrid Cloud Architecture. Rubrik allows us to protect On-Premises workloads and Cloud Based workloads with one application. This single pane of glass approach will help us to ensure that data is consistently protected and will greatly speed up the restore process if needed. In addition to backup, Rubrik also provides anomaly detection and data classification which can be used to detect and recover from potential Ransomware activities.”

Jerry Latson, Technical Team Lead of Systems, Security & IT Architecture.
