This article explains how to link videos and other large files from OneDrive to SharePoint. For example, you may be a professor with a class on Teams and might want to upload class recordings, notes, or any large files to the SharePoint page for that Team. However, under our current contract with Microsoft, SharePoint pages only allow up to 10GB of storage. A video alone can take up to 1.2GB on average, so 10GB will not be enough. To solve this, you can store these large files (e.g., videos, notes, etc.) in your OneDrive, then add them to your SharePoint page via a link. This will not affect the quality or functionality of the video.

Steps

  • Go to office.com
  • Select OneDrive from the sidebar on the left side of the screen.

  • It is recommended to create a folder to hold the specific videos/files you would like to share. In the upper left corner, click Add new, select Folder, choose a name and color, then click Create.

  • In OneDrive, click on the Upload button, select Files, choose the video file from your device, and wait for the upload to completely into the folder which created.

  • Navigate to the folder where your video recording is stored. Click on the video file to select it.

• Right-click on the video file, select Share, and in the sharing options, choose Copy link to generate a shareable link to the video.

  •  Launch the Microsoft Teams app on your device or access Teams through your web browser.
  • After the link is copied, open the particular Teams channel where you want to upload the link.
  • Click on the + New button, and from the drop down, select Link.
  • Paste the copied link and click on Create. The link will be uploaded directly to Teams.

Note: Ensure that the sharing permissions for the video link are set correctly so that team members can view the video. You can adjust the permissions in OneDrive by clicking on the Manage access option in the sharing settings.
