Background 

UT Dallas is committed to providing a safe and healthy learning space for its students and personnel. To make the online learning experience as smooth as possible for students and teaching experience for faculty, the Office of Information Technology has a limited number of monitors and webcams that can be borrowed at no cost to you.

These items can only be reserved by currently enrolled students who do not have these devices available to use in your coursework. Should you need a monitor or webcam, please complete the corresponding request form.

A member of the OIT Service Desk team will contact you to arrange pick up. Come directly to the Founders Lab located in FO1.206. Please bring your Comet Card or driver’s license/state ID.

Who can receive a device?

Students enrolled in classes during the semester of the loan.

What devices are available for Loan?

Some of the devices may differ cosmetically, but all of the technical specifications are the same. You cannot choose a specific device.

Monitors

  • Our Monitors do not have a built in computer. In order to display an image, they must be connected to an external computer, such as a desktop or a laptop.
  • 1080p Resolution
  • 23.8 inch display, measured diagonally.
  • Display port and HDMI inputs available.
    • We cannot provide HDMI cables.
    • Display Port cables are available upon request.

Webcams

  • 1080p Resolution
  • Manual focus adjustment
  • USB A connection

Keyboards

  • Standard membrane keyboards with a full numpad
  • USB A connection

Mice

  • Standard mice with left click, right click, scroll wheel, and forward and back buttons
  • USB A connection

How Much Does it Cost to Loan a Device?

Loaning devices is provided at no cost to students enrolled in classes during the semester of the loan.

Fine Breakdown

Fines may be issued for damaged, broken, or lost devices.

Fines will also be issued for devices returned after the return date specified during your loan paperwork.

A hold will be placed on your account if you do not reurn your device by the due date specified in your loan paperwork.

  • Monitors
    • $200 replacement fee for lost or severely damaged monitors.
      • Fine may vary for lightly damaged equipment
    • $10 per day fine for monitors returned past the due date of the loan.
      • After 7 days, the device will be considered missing and a replacement fee will be assessed.
  • Webcams
    • $50 replacement fee for lost or severely damaged webcams.
    • $5 per day fine for webcams returned past the due date of the loan.
  • Mice & Keyboards
    • $25 replacement fee
  • Cables
    • $10 replacement fee
