Creating a Google Project Account

The purpose of creating a Google account with your @utdallas.edu email is to give you secure access to the Google Cloud Platform (GCP) for university‑approved work. This account allows OIT to place your project under an existing UTD purchase order so that all usage is billed correctly and managed centrally. By using your UTD email, your access can be verified, supported, and connected to the appropriate research or departmental resources without requiring a personal credit card or individual billing.

Create or Add Your UTD email to Google Workspaces

If you do not already have a Google Workspace account linked to your UTD email, complete the steps below:

  1. Visit https://workspace.google.com/.
  2. If you are signed into a personal Gmail account, click your profile icon and choose “Add another account.”
  3. Select “Create account.”
  4. When asked who the account is for, choose “For personal use.” (Business accounts are not needed and include only a short trial period.)
  5. Select “Use your existing email address.”
  6. Enter your @utdallas.edu email address. Google will send a verification code to your UTD email.
  7. Enter the code to confirm and complete your account setup.
  8. Finish Your Account Setup

After Verifying your Email:

  • Sign in using your UTD address.
  • Provide the basic information requested.
  • Google may ask you to add a recovery phone number or backup email. These are optional but recommended for account security and recovery.

Notify OIT

After your account is set up:

  • Email oitcloud@utdallas.edu and let them know your UTD Google account is ready. They will add you to the appropriate project and ensure billing is connected to the existing UTD purchase order.

Access the Google Cloud Console

Once your project is created by Cloud team, you will receive an email you have been added to your project along with all users. Alternatively, follow the steps below:

  1. Go to the Google Cloud Console: https://console.cloud.google.com
  2. You should now see the Google Cloud dashboard. If not, simply use the link above to access it.
