This article shows how to report spam/junk email to Microsoft.

Report Incorrect Junk Markings

Suppose you receive emails incorrectly marked as junk when they are not or not marked when they are. You can change how they are marked and send a report to Microsoft by following these steps:

  1. In the Outlook Web Application (OWA) (either webmail.utdallas.edu or outlook.office.com), go to the folder where you can find the incorrectly marked message.
  2. Right-click the message, and then click Junk > Not Junk or Junk > Block Sender depending on which it is.
  3. In the "Report as not junk" or "Report as junk" dialog box, select Report.

Incorrect Spam Identification

Identified Spam

If a message was incorrectly identified as spam, you could submit the message to the Microsoft Spam Analysis Team. The Analysts will evaluate the message, and (depending on the analysis results) the service-wide filters will be adjusted to allow the message through.

  1. Create a new, blank email message with "not_junk@office365.microsoft.com" as the Recipient.
  2. Drag and drop the misidentified message into the new message.
    1. This will save the misidentified message as an attachment in the new message. Do not copy and paste the content of the message or forward the message (the original message is needed so the message headers can be inspected).

Unidentified Spam

Suppose you receive a message passed through spam filtering that should have been identified as spam or phishing. In that case, you can submit the message to the Microsoft Spam Analysis and Microsoft Phishing Analysis teams as appropriate. The Analysts will review the message and add it to the service-wide filters to meet the classification criteria.

  1. Create a new, blank email message with one of the following recipients:
