Note: This pertains to conditions where your password only fails during the login to NoMachine and the same username and password work with other UTD resources such as Galaxy, VPN, SSH, Domain Windows (labs), UTD Email, and network resources.
If it is failing across all platforms, you may need to unlock or change your password if unlocking does not help. To unlock or change your password, please visit UTD NetID Self-Service. Note that it may take up to 60 minutes for the new password to be synchronized across all systems.
Important: Ensure that your username (NetID) is entered in all lowercase when connecting to NoMachine or other Linux systems.
When connecting, please allow up to 3 minutes to connect, as the system may need to cache your password from central IPA servers. During class, there may be many other students connecting as well, so it is advised to connect earlier in the day before class to cache your credentials.
- Terminate your session: If you have changed your password while logged into NoMachine (Linux), NoMachine will not know of this change until you have logged in fresh. It is best to log out or terminate your session if one exists before changing the password.
- Termination is done after entering your password. NoMachine will display your current session, which contains the server’s name you are connected to and your display number.
- This can be right clicked on, and Terminate session can be selected.
- Please allow 1 minute to complete the termination before attempting to reconnect normally.
Note: Even if this shows the action has completed quickly, please allow the server time to complete termination by waiting 1 minute.
- Change Protocols: Switch from NX to SSH, as SSH handles password parsing differently.
- This is changed in the NoMachine client for the connection to the NoMachine server.
- Special Characters: If your password works everywhere except in NoMachine, it might be due to special characters at the start or end of your password (e.g., ", \, $, &).
- Change your password to avoid these characters at the start or end of the password.
- Password Issues: Sometimes, a password change might still be required even if it contains no special symbols.
- This could be due to issues with the NoMachine Client/servers or other factors through the password change process.
- Password Synchronization: Allow up to 60 minutes for the new password to propagate through all network resources, this is usually completed much sooner than that.
You have exceeded the disk space allotted to your account, and NoMachine cannot write any more data to your home directory. NoMachine requires ~80 MB available to complete its operations.
Your home directory is personal disk space that needs to be maintained by you. There are three possible ways to resolve this error; please use the one you are most comfortable with. Your Linux home directory is mounted on Windows domain machines like in our labs (EOAL, Solarium, CS Labs) UTD Facilities - Open Access Labs. All three options are available in EOAL and Solarium Labs.
- Windows Domain Machine: Navigate to your h:\ in File Explorer (Windows key + E) and remove unnecessary files to allow you to reconnect to NoMachine.
- WinSCP: Change File protocol to SCP, set Host name to giant.utdallas.edu, and type in your username and password.
- Click login. You will be prompted to continue connecting to an unknown server; click yes and complete a duo authentication to log in.
- Navigate and transfer or delete files as needed.
- SSH: Use an SSH program such as Putty, Linux terminal, or Mac OSX Terminal to SSH into giant.utdallas.edu.
- These systems use duo authentication, and some programs such as MobaXterm cannot parse the login and will not work correctly.
- On giant, you can use the command “ncdu” to find where your disk space is used and use the arrow keys to navigate and 'd' to delete, 'q' to quit.
- These systems are to be used for academics.
- You must be enrolled in an engineering course during the current semester to be able to access NoMachine.
- During the intersession (the period between semesters), access may be denied while groups are updated, and/or maintenance is completed.
- Passwords must be manually typed in, as auto-completion or automation in the NoMachine client may misinterpret the password.
