Purpose
This article provides information on the availability of Microsoft Power BI application for UTD community and steps to download it for licensed users.
Context
Power BI Pro is already provisioned for Faculty and Staff - no action is needed. The software is not available to guest users
Power BI Free is available to students and student workers upon request. For Student Workers: Faculty or Staff will need to fill out a Provisioning Request.
If you are a student and would like Power BI Free, please use this form to request access.

Note: Power BI Pro license cannot be assigned to students.
License Types
Power BI Free
A user with a free license can only use the Power BI service to connect to data and create reports and dashboards in My Workspace. They cannot share content with others or publish content to other workspaces.
Power BI Pro
Power BI Pro license holders can consume content shared by other users, publish content to different workspaces, and share and subscribe to dashboards and reports. If the content is stored in a shared capacity, users assigned a Power BI Pro license can collaborate only with other Power BI Pro users.
Accessing Power BI
If you are licensed for Power BI, do the following to access the software:
- Go to portal.office.com.
- Log in with your UTD email (NetID@utdallas.edu) and password.
- Authenticate with Duo.
- In the list of apps that show, select Power BI.
- If Power BI does not show in the default list, select All apps, and find Power BI.

- A new window will open with Power BI.
