Recall / Replace Email (Desktop)

This article explains the process of the recall and replace New Outlook email feature, you can recall your earlier email and replace it automatically with a newly drafted one.

Procedure

  • Locate and open your Sent Items folder from the folder pane in Outlook.

  • Double click on the email you want to recall and a new window will open.
Note: A single click on the email will open the email in preview mode. The recall feature would not be visible in that mode.
  • In the new window, select the More options icon > Recall Message.

Note: You will not be able to recall sent emails on Outlook Web version.
  • Once you click on Recall This Message, a dialogue box will appear to confirm recall.
    • Select OK to delete the message from the mailbox of all recipients.

  • Outlook will send you an email to verify the message. You can click View Message Recall Report to see the status.
    • A replacement message will be sent to the user by Outlook.
Note: The status of the recall and replacement message depends on the recipient’s settings in Outlook. It will delete or keep the original message depending on the recipient’s settings in Outlook.
