What's New in CometAI 3.0
A guided tour of the API access, integrations, models, and collaboration features in the latest CometAI release - and how to start using them.
CometAI 3.0 is a major upgrade to UT Dallas' enterprise generative AI platform for faculty and staff. This release makes it easier to find information, connect university content, build custom AI assistants, and automate workflows - all inside CometAI.

One of the most requested features is here: CometAI can now be used beyond the chat interface via API. Three key types are supported, all managed from Settings → API Access:

Note: API keys are shown only once at creation - copy and store them securely. If a key is lost or compromised, rotate or deactivate it right away.

Connect CometAI directly to your SharePoint and OneDrive to select files and folders you already have permission to access - no more re-uploading the same documents to every chat. This lives under Settings → Integrations → Microsoft, alongside Calendar, Excel, and OneNote.

SharePoint appears alongside OneDrive and the other Microsoft Graph integrations in this same panel.
CometAI can now search the internet and return supporting information with hyperlinks directly inside chats and assistants. Toggle it on from the quick-actions flyout or the main chat toolbar - it turns green when active. You can also supply a sitemap URL so a CometAI Assistant can work from the content of an entire website.

The model lineup (now 25+ models) has expanded to include:

These join the existing lineup, giving secure access to leading LLMs for creative, analytical, and technical work.
- Layered Assistants - a parent assistant routes each request to the right child assistant, with AI-written or custom decision logic.
- Group Assistants - organize multiple assistants under a single parent assistant.

Once saved, your layered assistants show up alongside your regular Assistants and Prompt Templates:

Assistants with their own Custom Instructions (like a Visualization or PowerPoint Assistant) appear in your sidebar. Pick one, choose a model, and start chatting — the assistant's instructions and connected documents carry into the conversation automatically.

- Assistants now retain connected documents & information, so you don't have to re-upload the same resources repeatedly.
CometAI continues to evolve on an open-source foundation. While OIT thoroughly tests each release, occasional bugs or unexpected behavior may occur.
Use "Report a CometAI Issue" so OIT can identify and resolve problems.
