Install and Connect to GlobalProtect VPN (macOS)

Installing GlobalProtect 

Note: GlobalProtect for Mac supports macOS 10.15 or higher. There might be minor differences in the steps for different versions and specifications of the mac device.
  • Open your preferred web browser, click here to start your download.
  • Enter your UT Dallas credentials to sign in.
    • If you are not already authenticated through DUO, you will be asked to do so via a push notification, text message, or phone call.

  • Select Download Mac 32/64 bit GlobalProtect Agent.

  • After downloading, go to your Downloads and double click to open GlobalProtect.pkg.
    • You can save it to your “Downloads” folder or in another preferred location.

  • An "Install GlobalProtect" window will open, select Continue.

  • In Custom Install, leave GlobalProtect checked and deselect all of the other features. Click Continue.

  • Select Install, and select Install Software.
  • You will have to authenticate with your local user credentials to move forward with the installation process.

  • Select Close.

After Installing GlobalProtect 

After installing the application, enable Palo Alto Networks as a trusted developer.

  • Launch System Settings from your Mac.
  • Select General > Login Items.
  • Find "Palo Alto Networks" in the list of items available. Move the tongle to allow PaloAlto to make changes and modify preferences.
    • If prompted, enter your Mac User Name and Password, and then Unlock the preferences.
  • Now you can connect to the VPN.

  • On macOS Catalina and higher, the popup below will ask for permissions to access the local folders ~/Downloads, ~/Desktop, and ~/Documents. You can either select Don’t Allow or OK for each of the three depending on whether you want to allow or block the access.

Connecting to GlobalProtect 

  • Open the GlobalProtect VPN client on your machine, enter the Portal Address as utdvpn.utdallas.edu > Connect.

  • GlobalProtect will take a few seconds to reach the connection.

  • Sign in with your UTD credentials and authenticate through DUO via a push notification, text message, or phone call.
Note: Do not select Enter on your keyboard device. Hitting Enter after entering your username and SSO password will result in the Stale Request error message. Visit KA 1185 for more information.

 Note: Safari/Chrome/Firefox, any of them could be your default browser. If your default browser is Firefox or Chrome, the page would redirect to your browser.
  • Once connected, the client will display a pop-up message asking you to allow the page to open GlobalProtect.
  • Click on Allow

  • After clicking on Allow, the client displays "Authentication Complete", informing you that you are actively connected to the UT Dallas VPN.
