Non-Smartphone Options for Duo Authentication

This article provides the instructions to login without Duo app installed or having no access to a smartphone.

Details

Users are able to authenticate via a phone call or text message as non-smartphone options. If you have a tablet you would like to use to authenticate, visit KA 346. In the Activating Duo Mobile section you will see the "I have a tablet" link when asked to enter your phone number. Once activated, you will be able to receive a Duo Push.

Phone Call

  • You can use your phone to authenticate with Duo. Follow this article if you have not enrolled in Duo.
  • Once you have enrolled in Duo and set up your device, on the authentication screen, select Phone call.

  • Duo will then call you and provide instructions to verify your account so you can authenticate.

Text (SMS)

  • You can use text message to authenticate with Duo, select Text message passcode on the authentication screen.
    • Duo will then send you a code to enter in the next screen.

  • Enter the passcode in the appropriate field and select Verify

Duo
Duo is the university two-factor authentication method designed to add a second layer of security to your NetID account. Verifying your identity using a second factor, such as your phone or a security key, prevents anyone but you from logging in, even if they know your password.
