Export LastPass Vault

Objective

With LastPass Enterprise for UTD being discontinued on 12/15/2023, it is important that you make plans to exit the LastPass service, including exporting your password vault data, if you choose to do so. You can export the contents of your LastPass vault so that you can keep a secure copy for your own records. This export method will display your vault data on a web browser page so it can be saved.

Procedure

To export your vault:

  1. Go to the LastPass login page at https://lastpass.com/?ac=1
  2. Enter your email address and master password, then click Log In.
  3. Select Advanced Options > Export.
  4. If prompted, enter your master password. If desired, select Do not re-prompt for and use the drop-down menu to select a time interval.
  5. Select Continue.
    1. Result: An email notification has been sent to your LastPass email address for verification.
  6. Check your inbox for a "Verify export" message, then click Continue export in the email to verify.
    1. This verification link expires after 10 minutes.
  7. Return to your vault, then go to Advanced Options > Export again.
    1. TroubleshootingIf you are using the Safari browser and when you select Export nothing happens, you will need to allow pop-up windows from LastPass to export your vault data:
      1. Click anywhere in the Safari window, then use the Apple Menu Bar to go to Safari > Settings.
      2. Select Websites > Pop-up Windows.
      3. For the lastpass.com entry, use the drop-down menu and select Allow.
      4. Return to your LastPass vault, then select Advanced Options > Export again.
  8. If prompted, enter your master password and select Submit.

Result

You have successfully exported your LastPass vault data, and your sites and secure notes are displayed in a web browser page (which you can copy the contents of and paste it into a text editor to save the file locally). If pop-ups from LastPass are not blocked, a CSV file containing your vault data will also download. We strongly recommend that you store all passwords, including those you may choose to download from LastPass, in a manner that you maintain control. UTD provided services where the file with your passwords could be stored include OneDrive and/or Box.
