Overview

Class Collaborate (formerly Blackboard Collaborate Ultra) is a way to create a virtual classroom, office, or meeting space in order to communicate with users on campus or anywhere in the world. This browser-based web conferencing tool allows instructors to communicate, collaborate, engage, and interact with their students in real time with updated features and teaching tools.

  • Class Collaborate is turned on in all current eLearning courses.
  • Collaborate dashboard is used to join sessions and access recordings.
    • Students can view the recording in the dashboard but cannot download it unless the instructor allows it under "Session Settings".
  • All moderators must leave the session for the recording to generate.
Note: Blackboard does not allow users to download recordings. You have to enable it on the "Session Settings" to download them in the dashboard.
  • The Course Room is automatically accessible to all participants enrolled in the course.
  • Guest access allows you to share a link with anyone, even if they are not on eLearning.
    • Do not choose this option if you want to track attendance.
    • Send the Guest link if the student has technical issues.
  • When setting (or editing) a session, you can allow participants audio/video/chat, which will enable them to have an open discussion.
  • Turn the toggle on for Review Status and Statistics Tracking to see if a student has watched the content.
    • This will show if students have watched the entire recording.
Suggestion: The Instructor can post a short quiz about recordings for accountability purposes to better understand if students viewed the entire recording.
  • The Instructor can edit the "Session Settings" and uncheck Share Audio to remove microphone permissions from participants.
  • Check the Weekly Maintenance Window on the homepage for upcoming maintenance.
  • Control Panel is viewable by those with advanced permissions for the course- will not be seen by students.
  • Announcements allow instructors to post time-sensitive information, which can also be sent as an email to students' utdallas.edu addresses.

Tips

  • Avoid Safari/Edge:
    • It is best to use Firefox and Chrome.
  • Chrome is Recommended:
    • Chrome is primarily recommended as it's the only browser that currently allows users to share computer audio.
  • Leave Sessions for Recording:
    • Properly leave the session for the session to be recorded.
    • It can take up to a few hours for a recording to generate.
Note: Do not just close the tab- this will not allow the session to be recorded.
