Enable Wi-Fi Calling and Report Cellular Coverage Issues

Purpose

This articles explains how to enable Wi-Fi calling on a device and report any issues.

Enabling Wi-Fi calling

OIT is in the process of upgrading the University’s wireless network solution CometNet across campus for better connectivity. Visit the Wireless Upgrade page for additional information on this project.

Wi-Fi calling can be a good alternative where cellular service is not available. To enable Wi-Fi calling, follow the instructions based on your phone:

For iOS Devices:

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Select Cellular.
  3. Click on Wi-Fi Calling.
  4. Enable() the "Wi-Fi Calling on this iPhone" option.

For Android Devices:

  1. Click on the Phone icon.
  2. Tap More or three vertical dots on the right side of the screen() and click on Settings.
  3. Click on Calls.
  4. Select Wi-Fi Calling

If wireless connectivity is not strong enough in your area to enable Wi-Fi Calling, please get in touch with the Help Desk. OIT takes the safety and security of our campus very seriously and is working diligently to improve wireless coverage on campus.

Note: If you do not see the option for Wi-Fi calling, your carrier does not support this feature.

Reporting Poor Cell Coverage

We do ask that you contact your carrier and let them know about low/no-coverage areas and your concerns as well. Voicing your concerns with them will help us help you!
