TechKnowledgy Bar e-Recycling FAQs

FAQs

Why Does Recycling Matter?

  • e-Waste is electronic products that are unwanted, not working, and nearing or at the end of their “useful life”. E-Recycling is the reuse or reprocessing of electronics that have been discarded.
  • Printer cartridges and toner contain chemicals and plastic that can contaminate soil. Recycling these items reduces waste and environmental impact.
  • Batteries contain chemicals and metals that can contaminate weather and soil. Battery recycling reduces waste and environmental impact.

What’s Accepted for e-Recycling?

  • e-Waste: Personal computers, laptops, computer monitors, printers, keyboards, computer mice, fax machines, photocopiers, televisions, VCRs, DVD and Blue Ray players, stereos, speakers, home and office phones, cell phones, and consumer electronics.
  • Printer Cartridges: While all cartridges and toners types can be accepted, we suggested the Tech. Bar to only accept items small enough to fit in the bin. Please visit the Recycling Locator page for additional drop-off locations.
  • Batteries: While all battery types can be accepted, we suggested the Tech. Bar to only accept batteries small enough to fit in the recycling bin. Please visit the Recycling Locator page for additional drop-off locations.

What’s Not Accepted for e-Recycling?

UTD-owned products are not accepted. Users with UTD-owned products are to contact the Campus Facility to discard devices. Users with personal products too large to fit in a bin are encouraged to contact sustainability@utdallas.edu or Recycling@utdallas.edu for their contactless drop-off location.

  • Printer Cartridges: Cartridges are provided to Sustainability to be properly recycled. Through a partnership with Staff Council, the revenue generated from recycling ink cartridges and toners goes toward the Staff Council Scholarship
  • Batteries: Batteries are provided to Sustainability for proper recycling. Please visit their Recycling page to learn more.
