Repeated spam or telemarketing calls can become a nuisance but are not illegal. However, if the sole purpose of the caller is to harass or threaten a UTD user, they may be guilty of a crime under Texas Penal Code 42.07. This includes any calls to harass, annoy, alarm, abuse, torment, or embarrass another person, even if done as a prank or joke. The use of obscene language falls into this category as well.
Any such phone calls should be reported immediately to the University Police Department. If possible, report the phone number and timestamp of the call and any details of the conversation you may recall.
