Purpose
FTP is intended for initial bulk uploading and occasional bulk downloading of files from your account. FTP is enabled for all accounts, but FTP does not support Single Sign-On. So, to use FTP you must set a separate password in Box. We do not recommend using FTP as your primary access method.
The maximum size of a file which can be uploaded or downloaded using FTP is 32GB.
Explanation
Set Up a Separate Password
- Navigate to the Login and select Continue.
- Log in with your NetID; enter your password and authenticate with DUO.
- On the top right, open your account area and select Account Settings.
- In the Account tab, scroll down to the Authentication section and select Create Password.
- Enter in your new separate password and select Save.
If you ever need or want to change this password, simply navigate back to this page and select
Change Password. If you do not remember the previous password, instead navigate
here, enter your NetID@utdallas.edu email, and you will receive a password reset link in your email.
Use FTP
To access Box's FTP server, you'll need an FTP client of your choosing using the information below to connect:
- Server: ftp.box.com
- Username: Your Box account email address (SSO log is not supported)
- Password: Your Box account (separate) password
- Port:
- For implicit encrypted connection (FTPS): 990
- For standard, unencrypted connection (FTP) or explicit encrypted connection (FTPES): 21. Transfers may be slower when using encryption due to additional processing.
