Commonly Mapped Drives

Listed below are a few commonly used drives at UTD and their associated network share path. The letters used to represent these below are purely convention; any available drive letter may be used.

Note: Not all user home directories are hosted on Mars. If you are having issues mapping your home directory or any other drives, please contact the OIT Service Desk.

Map a Network Drive (UTD Device)

Many UTD computers will have some drives mapped automatically. These are usually user specific drives, such as the home directory, and department specific drives. If a drive you wish to access is not already mapped on your UTD device, please follow the instructions below to add it:

  1. Open This PC (or select it from File Explorer).

  2. Click Computer from the ribbon menu.
  3. Select Map network drive.

  4. Select a letter for the drive from the list of available options.
  5. Enter the network path for the drive/folder in the "Folder" field.
  6. Ensure the Reconnect at sign-in box is checked.
  7. Click Finish.
    • The computer will attempt to map the drive on your computer. After a few seconds, the drive will appear in the list under This PC.

Map a Network Drive (Personal Device)

Non-UTD devices will not map drives automatically. In order to access a network drive from a non-UTD device, follow the instructions below:

Note: Connection to the UTD Network (CometNet, wired connection, GlobalProtect VPN) is required to access any network drives at UTD.
  1. Open This PC (or select it from File Explorer).

  2. Click Computer from the ribbon menu.
  3. Select Map network drive.

  4. Select a letter for the drive from the list of available options.
  5. Enter the network path for the drive/folder in the Folder field.
  6. Ensure the Connect using different credentials box is checked.
  7. Optional, check the  Reconnect at sign-in and Connect using different credentials box. 
  8. Click Finish.

  1. In the authentication dialog that appears, input the following:
    • Username: CAMPUS\NetID
    • Password: Your UTD Password

  2. Click OK.
    • The computer will attempt to map the drive on your computer. After a few seconds, the drive will appear in the list under This PC.

Troubleshooting

Issues may arise when attempting to map a network drive. Listed below are a few troubleshooting steps for common issues. Please contact the OIT Service Desk for further assistance.

“Windows Cannot Access [Network Path]”

  • Verify the full network path has been typed correctly
  • Verify you have permission to access the drive

“The Specified Network Password Is Not Correct.”

  • Ensure you have typed your UTD username and password correctly

“You Do Not Have Permission to Access [Network Path]. Contact Your Network Administrator to Request Access.”

  • This indicates you do not have permission to access the drive – please contact your immediate supervisor to request access
