Context

In order to comply with U.S. regulations, effective May 5, 2022 Duo will begin blocking authentications from users whose IP address originates in a country or region subject to economic and trade sanctions enforced by the U.S. Office of Foreign Assets Control.

Details

Users who are blocked due to this restriction will receive an error message from Duo stating: "Access denied. Duo Security does not provide services in your current location."

List of impacted countries/regions:

  • Cuba
  • Iran
  • North Korea
  • Sudan
  • Syria
  • Crimea region
  • Sevastopol region
  • Donetsk region
  • Luhansk region

This means that UT Dallas students, faculty, staff, and affiliates based in, or traveling to, these countries or regions will not be able to access or communicate via most University-provided technology resources including UTD Microsoft 365, UTD Outlook, Galaxy, Box, and other Duo-protected services.

There are no recommended alternatives to Duo-protected applications.
