What Is It?

Microsoft 365 and Microsoft Teams have hundreds of add-ins and integrations available from third-party providers. Users are responsible for being aware of the dangers posed by adding third-party software to their Microsoft 365 account and operate under a “use at your own risk” model. Using best practices to identify suspicious or potentially malicious add-ins are key to protecting yourself and confidential university data including FERPA and HIPAA protected information. Avoid add-ins that ask for excessive permissions or have questionable reviews. 

The ISO maintains the right to act as outlined within UTDBP3096 on any device suspected to be affected by a malicious plug-in until the plug-in is removed from the device by the user or respective IT staff.

Staff and Faculty can use any add-in given the add-in:

  • Meets the criteria listed above
  • Is required for a credited course

Where Can I Get It?

Staff and faculty should submit a request using the links on this page to access this service.

Students should ask their respective Faculty members to submit requests for plug-ins necessary for a course on their behalf. If the plug-in causes technical problems, students will need to work with their faculty member or local school IT department to resolve. ISO and OIT will offer minimal troubleshooting.

Costs may vary depending on what is requested.

What About AI Add-ins?

Copilot is the only approved AI powered add-in. More information about accessing Generative AI and Copilot can be found here.
