What Services Are Offered?

We support website hosting for faculty research labs and assist with migrating content from existing websites. After the initial set up, you’ll be provided access to edit and maintain your site’s content.

How Do I Request This Service?

Please submit a support ticket with the following information and we will review your request.

  • Name of faculty or lab site is for
  • Site title
  • Site slug (for example: if lab is named “Foo” the slug might be labs.utdallas.edu/foo)
  • Editors on your team who need access to your site
  • Editorial content and photography
  • Theme choice

How Much Does It Cost?

This service is provided for free by the Office of Research and Innovation for the hosting of faculty lab and research-related websites.

Can I Choose the Look of My Site?

Yes, we have several themes available for use, and more! Each theme can be customized further with fonts, images, and CSS, but should generally aim to adhere to UTD branding guidelines.

What Content Can I Put On My Website?

  • Static pages
  • Blog posts
  • News posts
  • Images and photos
  • Document files under 32MB in size

We do not support web scripts (javascript, custom executable code and programs) or document files over 32MB in size (video and audio). For these files we recommended external file hosting.

Can I Edit and Customize the Website Myself?

Yes, websites are created on a user-friendly content management system. You would be able to add and remove pages, posts, and widgets (features) on your site.

You can choose from a selection of themes which can be further customized by advanced users.

Can I Access the Website Off-Campus?

Yes, you can view and edit your website anywhere. In order to make changes you must log in via UTD single-sign-on with your UTD NetID credentials.

Will You Update My Website for Me?

If you are having difficulty updating your website then we can provide one-on-one training and help troubleshoot issues.

Can I Delegate Someone Else (Student, Researcher, TA, Etc.) To Update the Website?

Yes, if you provide us with their UTD NetID, then we can add them as a site editor.

What External Content Can I Embed on My Website?

Can You Host My Existing Static Website?

While we cannot host your static HTML pages, we can copy their content into our content management system.

What Can’t I Use This Website For?

This service is not intended for commercialization or distribution of products. Please refer to the Office of Technology Commercialization if you have any questions.

Can Students Use This Service?

Unfortunately, we do not support websites for student researchers. We also do not support websites for research clubs or organizations run by students or otherwise.

How Do I Log in to My Website?

Once you have been notified that your site is ready and your access to it has been set up, you can then log in. To log in, visit your site homepage in a browser, then append “/admin” to the end of the URL in the location bar. For example, if your site URL is the following:

  • https://labs.utdallas.edu/foobar

You would go to the URL below to login.

  • https://labs.utdallas.edu/foobar/admin/

Click on the Use My School ID button to take you to the Single Sign-On (SSO) page.

Use your NetID (without the @utdallas.edu) and password to log in.

This should take you to the WordPress Dashboard, which shows you recent activity and allows you to perform general actions on the website. You will be using the Dashboard to navigate the website and make edits.
