Purpose 

This article has instructions one on how to record a video clip that you can send to people in one-on-one and group chats in MS Teams. 

Record a Video Clip in Chat

  1. Start a Single Chat or Group chat in Teams where video clip is to be sent.
  2. Locate the Actions and Apps icon ( + ) symbol

  3. Select the Record a Video Clip icon from the menu

  4. The Record a video clip window will open prompting you to record Video/ Audio. Click Record button.

    • Note: You can pause and continue recording as many times as needed. Recording is limited to 1 mint.
  5. When complete, select Review

  6. You can trim your video clip, by click Trim button.

  7. To Trim your video clip, use the sliding panel to the right of the play button. Be sure to confirm once complete.

  8. After the recording is reviewed, you can send it by click the Send button.

  9. Your video clip is now successfully recorded and sent.

Record a Meeting or a Group Call

  1. Start or Join the meeting.
  2. To start the recording, go to the Meeting controls > More options icon (...) > Record and transcribe > Start Recording.

  3. Everyone in the meeting will be notified that the recording has started and will be posted to the chat history.
  4. You can not make multiple recordings of the same meeting simultaneously.
    • If one person starts recording a meeting, that recording will be stored on the cloud and available to all participants, through only the owner who started the recording.
  5. To stop recording go to the Meeting controls > More options icon (...) > Record and transcribe > Start Recording.

  6. The recording is then processed (which can take some time), saved to Microsoft Stream, and is ready to play.
  7. The person who started the recording receives an email from Microsoft Stream when the recording is available.
    • It also shows up in the meeting chat or the channel if you are meeting in a channel. 
Attention: Recording settings allow you to restrict recording capabilities to Owner/ Co owner

​​​Note:  In addition to storing the recording on Microsoft Stream, Microsoft will provide a link to the recording in the meeting chat, available for seven days. Recording continues even if the person who started the recording has left the meeting. The recording stops automatically once everyone leaves the meeting. If someone forgets to leave the meeting, the recording automatically ends after four hours, but a new recording will begin.
