Purpose
This article helps users add a shared mailbox to Mozilla Thunderbird.
Procedure
- Click on the Settings Gear and go to Account Settings.
- Select Account Actions and click Add Mail Account.
- Enter the following in the “Set Up Your Existing Email Address” window:
- Your Full Name: Use exact name of the shared mailbox (name will be displayed in your thunderbird folders)
- Email Address: Email Address of the Shared Mailbox (complete with @utdallas.edu)
- Password: Leave blank
- Remember Password: uncheck
Note: Leave the Password and Remember Password fields blank.
- Click Configure Manually.
- In the Manual Configuration, enter the following information into the available fields as shown below.
- INCOMING SERVER
- Protocol: IMAP
- Server: outlook.office365.com
- Port: 993
- SSL: SSL/TLS
- Authentication: Normal Password
- Username: Shared Email Address
- OUTGOING SERVER
- Server: smtp.office365.com
- Port: 587
- SSL: STARTTLS
- Authentication: Normal Password
- Username: Shared Email Address
- Click Re-test.
- Server settings are confirmed when the green message “The following settings were found by probing the given server:” appears at the top of the window.
- Select Done.
- If it asks you to sign into the Shared Mailbox with a Password, click Cancel.
- Go to Account Settings > Mailbox Column > Shared Mailbox > Server Settings.
Note: Mailbox column is referring to the column of added email mailboxes.
- Change “Authentication Method:” to OAuth2.
- Click on Mailbox Column > Outgoing Server (SMPT).
- Select the Shared Mailbox from list and click Edit.
- Change “Authentication Method:” to OAuth2 and set “Connection Security:” to STARTTLS.
- Click OK to save.
- Restart Thunderbird.
- You will be prompted to sign in with the Shared Mailbox’s UTD Password. Below the password text box, click “Sign-in with another account”.
Note: It is very important to click "sign-in with another account" or mailbox will not load.
- Log in with your NetID@utdallas.edu and regular password.
- Authenticate with Duo.
- Click on the Shared Mailbox’s Inbox and Thunderbird will start to load emails.
