Summary
The Online Designer is where the bulk of project development will occur including instrument management, other instrument actions, survey settings, and utilization of form display logic and survey queue. This form will serve as a table of contents to direct users to different features of the Online Designer.
Instrument Management
Instrument Management includes creating new instruments and renaming, copying and deleting existing instruments. For more information, visit the REDCap Instrument Management article.
Survey Settings
From the Survey Settings page, users can customize a variety of settings, including survey status, basic survey formatting, survey completion options, enable e-consent, and more. These settings are customizable per instrument in the project and do not impact the data entry forms. For more information, visit the REDCap Survey Settings article.
Survey Queue
The Survey Queue displays a list of surveys the participant is asked to complete (like a ‘to-do’ list) on a single page. This list also shows the surveys that the participant has already completed. While not required, this feature is best used when the project contains multiple surveys. For more information, visit the REDCap Survey Queue article.
Form Display Logic
Form Display Logic (or ‘form-level branching logic') is an advanced feature that provides a way to use conditional logic to disable specific data-entry forms that are displayed on the Record Status Dashboard, Record Home Page, or the form list on the left-hand menu. The forms will still be displayed on the page, but they will be disabled in order to prevent users from accessing them. For more information, visit the REDCap Form Display Logic article.
Survey Login
Survey Login feature forces survey respondents to authenticate some information/log into the survey(s) before they are allowed to view and complete the survey. Survey login can be enabled on one or more surveys within the project. To login, the respondent will be asked to enter one or more known values for fields in the project (such as last name, date of birth, etc.). For more information, visit the REDCap Survey Login article.
Automated Invitations/Auto Invitations options
Automated survey invitations are a way to have additional survey invitations sent to participants based on the completion of another instrument and/or if certain data values are fulfilled for a given record. This reduces the need for manually scheduling follow-up emails as they can be sent automatically. For more information, visit the REDCap Automated Invitations article.
Survey Notification
Notifications can be set up to alert a project user(s) via email every time a participant completes a survey/instrument in a given project. To set up the notification, use the drop-down fields per instrument to identify who should receive an email notification.
Data Dictionary
This module may be used for making changes to the project, such as adding new fields or modifying existing fields, by using an offline method called the Data Dictionary. The Data Dictionary is a specifically formatted CSV file within which you may construct your project fields and afterward upload the file here to commit the changes to your project. (Note: Once the file has been uploaded, changes will NOT immediately be made but will be displayed and checked for errors to ensure that all the formatting in the Data Dictionary is correct before official changes are made to the project.)
Codebook
The Codebook is a human-readable, read-only version of the project's Data Dictionary and serves as a quick reference for viewing the attributes of any given field in the project without having to download and interpret the Data Dictionary. (Note: Checkbox fields have their coded values displayed both in the format defined by users in the Online Designer/Data Dictionary as well as in the extended format seen in data imports and exports (i.e., field___code).)
REDCap Shared Library
The REDCap Shared Library is a repository for REDCap data collection instruments and forms that can be downloaded and used by researchers at REDCap partner institutions. Curated instruments highlighted with a star have been approved for inclusion by the REDCap Library Oversight Committee (REDLOC) after review for research relevance, accuracy in function and coding (see guidelines), and copyright issues. Other instruments and forms are shared by individuals or groups from consortium institutions on "as-is" basis.
