Details

The UT Dallas VPN service, GlobalProtect, is transitioning to a need-based access model. Access to the VPN is as follows:

VPN Access Granted by Default

  • Faculty
  • Staff
  • Paid Student Employees, including Teaching Assistants, Research Assistants, and Graduate Assistants
  • PHD Students

Course-Based Access

Students who do not fall into any of the above categories will only be provisioned for VPN access if they are enrolled in a course flagged as requiring VPN access. Faculty will set whether their course requires VPN access in the Student Information System (Galaxy) during registration. If you are a student and unsure if you need or should have course-based access, please contact your faculty member.

Note: Faculty can access instructions for how to indicate if their course needs VPN access.

All Other Users (Guest, Contractor, Sponsored, etc.)

All other users, such as Applicants and Guests, are not automatically provided VPN access. Any user who is not automatically provided VPN access through one of the above categories will only be provided access with a completed PEARL request. The users department must submit the VPN Access Request.
