Overview
The UT Dallas NetID account enables secure access to IT services for UTD affiliates. IT resources access is automatically managed based on an individual’s role within UTD. Some resources are restricted to specific departments and groups, such as those supporting a specific academic program. Additional access may be granted to resources such as mailing lists, door access, security groups, and more via IT Resource Access Request (faculty/staff only).
Students
Students will receive an email from NetIDServices@utdallas.edu with the subject "Important Information: Activate your UT Dallas Account."
- This email will be delivered to the personal email address indicated on the application UTD.
- This email is delivered within 3-5 business days of the application being processed by UT Dallas.
Applicants
Applicants are granted access to the UTD services required to complete the application process and submit documentation required to be considered for admission. Applicants have access to:
Applicants must reset their password and enroll in Duo to access these services.
Admitted
Students that have accepted their admission offer but are not yet enrolled in courses for the current semester are classified as Admitted Students. An increased set of IT services are accessible to admitted students:
Enrolled
Students enrolled in courses for the current semester have access to the full catalog of UTD IT services including but not limited to:
Graduated & Withdrawn
Graduated students (alumni) and recently withdrawn students will retain some access for approximately four semesters following graduation/withdrawal. This period of access is intended for students to migrate accounts and services that may be using their UTD email or other UTD resources to new, personally owned accounts. After this period, the student’s account will be disabled, and their data deleted. There are no access extensions. Graduated students retain access to the following services:
OPT Graduates
Students on an F1 visa who have registered and been accepted into the OPT (Optional Practical Training) program will retain access to their UTD email and Galaxy until the end of the OPT period. OPT membership is managed by ISSO. All questions regarding OPT membership should be directed to ISSO.
Re-Activated Accounts
Re-Activated accounts are accounts in which a student has completed the Former Student Re-Activation process in order to obtain academic records, such as official transcripts. Reactivated accounts will only have access to Galaxy.
Employees
New employees will receive an email from NetIDServices@utdallas.edu with the subject "Important Information: Activate your UT Dallas Account."
- This email will be delivered to the personal email address indicated on record.
- This email is delivered on or before the first day of employment.
Active Faculty/Staff
Active employees have access to the full catalog of UTD IT services including but not limited to:
Former Faculty
Former faculty members retain access to some IT services for 90 days following the end of their employment. This transition period allows outgoing faculty members to coordinate the transfer of responsibilities, academic resources, and research materials. Former faculty retain access to:

Former Staff
All former employees retain access to Galaxy for 3 years following the end of their employment. This access may be used to access financial records such as pay stubs and W-2s. After 3 years, all access will be removed.
Retirees
Retirees retain indefinite access to email services and some web applications. The Office of Human Resources makes all decisions regarding continued access for retirees. Additional information for retirees can be found on the HR website.
Retirees retain email service access to the Outlook web app on portal.office.com. Any other access will need to be requested by the retirees department through PEARL computer access request.
Emeritus
Emeritus users retain standard access to IT resources available to staff. Departments are responsible for updating Emeritus' job status. Additional information for Emeritus can be found in the official UTD Policy Statement.
Guests
Guest users may include contractors, visiting lecturers, industry representatives, and more. Some guest users may be processed by HR, while others require sponsorship from an approved faculty or staff member. Sponsorship and access may be managed through an IT Resource Request.
