Manage New Outlook Mailbox Delegates (Windows)

New Outlook Delegation

Currently, assigning delegate permissions to mail folders in New Outlook is only partially available. You can have delegates, but you must use Classic Outlook to assign those permissions first. After assigning delegate access in Classic Outlook, the person you're sharing a folder can access that folder from within their New Outlook mailbox- their responses will show as coming on your behalf.

Assigning Delegate

  • Open New Outlook.
  • Right-click on the E-mail/ Folder you would like to grant access to and select Sharing and permissions.

  • Select the Plus sign (+) located on the top left. 
  • Search for the delegate you would like to add and click Add.

A selected folder icon is at the top left. Below are dropdown menus for ‘Name’ and ‘Permission level,’ set to ‘Default’ and ‘None.’ The ‘Permissions’ section has unchecked options for Read and Write. The ‘Delete Access’ section has unselected radio buttons for ‘None,’ ‘Own,’ and ‘All.’ At the bottom right, there are ‘apply’ and ‘cancel’ buttons, with ‘cancel’ highlighted.

  • After adding delegates, you will be able to choose several predefined permissions settings. 
    • Click on the delegates name to highlight the user, and select their permission in the Permission leveldrop-down menu.
      • You can also manually configure their access by selecting Custom.
    • Once you have set the access, select OK.
