Change your Microsoft Teams Status (Presence)

Purpose

What is your current Teams status? Busy? Stepped away? Microsoft Teams (and throughout Microsoft 365 or Office 365) allows us to share our current availability and or status with other users. Anyone can see (in nearly real-time) if other users are available online since the status updates automatically based on your activity. This article provides information on changing your Microsoft Teams status, including ensuring you do not get calls while teaching a class on Microsoft Teams.

Changing your Status

  1. Open Microsoft Teams and click on your Initials or Profile picture (if you have one set) towards the top right.

  1. Hover over your current status, and a pop-up will open where you can select a new status.

Do Not Disturb (Phone)

Set Team Status

To avoid getting calls on Teams during class, set your status to Do not disturb for the duration of your lecture.

  • Select your profile button from the top right, and select your current status and duration from the list below.

 

 

 

  • In the box that opens, modify "Status" to Do not disturb and change to Reset status after your class ends. You can use the default timing shown or set a custom time.

 

 

 

  • Your status will automatically update based on the time specified, activity, and calendar.
