Non-Smartphone Options for Duo Authentication

This article provides the instructions to login without Duo app installed or having no access to a smartphone. 


Phone Call

  1. You can use your phone to authenticate with Duo. Follow this article to get started.
  2. Once you have enrolled in Duo and set up your device, on the authentication screen, select 'Call Me'.

  1. Duo will then call you and provide instructions to verify your account so you can authenticate.

Text (SMS)

  1. You can use text message to authenticate with Duo. On the authentication screen, select 'Enter a Passcode'.

  1. If you do not have a code already, click 'Text me new codes' in the blue banner. Duo will then send 10 one-use codes to your phone.
  2. Enter one of those codes in the passcode field and select 'Log In'

Duo is the university two-factor authentication method designed to add a second layer of security to your NetID account. Verifying your identity using a second factor, such as your phone or a security key, prevents anyone but you from logging in, even if they know your password.
