Personal Webpage for UT Dallas Employees and Students

Context

In response to UT Dallas Audit Report No R2411, TEC 51.3525, Personal Webpages (https://personal.utdallas.edu/~Netid) are no longer provided by UT Dallas for Employees or Students. For those that currently have personal web pages for official University business, there are several options available as alternatives. See the list below for alternatives based on use cases and an FAQ with more details.

Research Related Labs/Centers/Groups Websites can have and manage a dedicated word press website. The Office of Research and Innovation can assist in the migration from an existing site or with the creation of a new one to promote and document your labs successes.
Official University Departments and Schools University Web Services specializes in creating compelling, user-centered pages and sites that provide effective content management.

If you would like assistance on an academic or administrative website (i.e. school/department, office/administrative unit, student recruitment/enrollment) please complete our Website Redesign or New Site Request form.
Course Related The UTD eLearning team’s mission is to provide the University’s Faculty, Staff and Students with resources to facilitate a successful online learning experience.

FAQ's

When will the current offering for Personal Webpages end?

  • Current personal web pages will not be available past August 31st, 2025. 
  • If you have content on current personal web pages, it will need to be moved or deleted prior to that time.

Will I be able to move my data?

  • Yes, you may migrate your data prior to August 31st, 2025.

I no longer need my page, can OIT delete it?

Can OIT help me migrate data off my Personal Webpage?

  • Please SSH or SFTP to giant.utdallas.edu to access your Personal Webpage files and transfer them to your preferred storage method.
  • If you face any issues or need assistance, you may submit an Atlas ticket and OIT will provide a .zip file with your Personal Webpage content files.

What resources are available for Personal Webpages?

  • Visit KB 10 for assistance with your personal web page.
  • Read KB 336 if you need support with CGI under personal web page.

How do I password protect a current page or folder?

  • Read KB 337 to password protect instructions. 

If I want to have a non-UTD Personal Webpage, does OIT recommend any services?

  • UT Dallas does not have any recommendations, however there are multiple service providers in the marketplace that offer web hosting services.
