Record a Meeting or a Group Call in Microsoft Teams

Purpose

This article has instructions that can help you record a meeting or a group call in Teams.

Record a Meeting or a Group Call

  • Start or join the meeting.
  • To start the recording, go to the meeting controls and select More options (the three dots ...) > Start recording.

Teams meeting controls with more tab selected to display drop down menu with Start Recording option.

  • Everyone in the meeting is notified that the recording has started and is posted to the chat history.
  • You can not make multiple recordings of the same meeting simultaneously. If one person starts recording a meeting, that recording will be stored on the cloud and available to all participants, through only the owner who started the recording.
  • To stop recording go to the meeting controls and select More options (the three dots ...) > Stop recording.

Teams meeting controls with more tab selected to display drop down menu with Stop Recording option.

  • The recording is processed (which is generally fast but can take some time), saved to Microsoft Stream, and is ready to play.
  • The person who started the recording receives an email from Microsoft Stream when the recording is available. It also shows up in the meeting chat or the channel if you are meeting in a channel.
Note: In addition to storing the recording on Microsoft Stream, Microsoft will provide a link to the recording in the meeting chat, available for seven days. Recording continues even if the person who started the recording has left the meeting. The recording stops automatically once everyone leaves the meeting. If someone forgets to leave the meeting, the recording automatically ends after four hours, but a new recording will begin.
