Sharing Videos from Stream (On SharePoint) to Microsoft Teams

Purpose

This article contains details on sharing videos from Stream (on SharePoint) to Microsoft Teams. Stream (on SharePoint) is an intelligent enterprise video experience that is part of Microsoft 365. It empowers you to record, upload, discover, share, and manage video just as you would any other file. Video is like any other document. It seamlessly integrates with apps across Microsoft 365, so you get the same experience no matter where you add or engage with video content.

Procedure

You can launch the Stream (on SharePoint) application from the app launcher if you already have a working online M365 account.

  1. Log in to the Microsoft Office Home Page and click on the App Launcher icon on the top left corner of the home page.
  2. Select Stream from the apps listed.

    Note: In case you do not see the application there, click on the below highlighted Apps option and you should be able to see ‘Stream’ there.

  3. Once your Stream (on SharePoint) page is open, locate the video you want to share via teams (specific user, a group, or a channel).
    • Stream (on SharePoint) allows you some quick options to filter and find videos.
    • You can use any highlighted tab (All, Recently opened, Shared, Favorites) or enter a keyword in the search bar. Stream (on SharePoint) also allows you to filter videos by Activity and Time.

  4.  Once you locate the file you want to share, click on the Share icon against the article's name and select Teams.

  5. Microsoft might ask you to log in to Teams if you are not already logged in. A screen like the one below will appear if logging in is needed.

  6. Click on Sign In and enter your credentials.

  7. Once logged in, you would be required to enter the name of the Person/Teams group /Teams channel you want to share the video to.

    • Auto-suggestions would pop up based on your permission to post content on the groups/channels.

    • Note: If you do not have permission to post in a specific channel/group, you will not be able to share videos there. If you want to share the video to a particular channel, type in the channel name instead of the team’s name for auto-suggestions to pop up. 
       
  8. Along with adding a Recipient, you can also add any message about the link you are about to share.

    • Hit Share once both those fields are as per your requirement.

  9. You will get a confirmation window confirming that your link has been shared with the recipients.

  • You should be able to see the link to the video on the Teams chat.

Note: The recipients need to have access to the video for them to be able to view it by following the link. While they would have the link to the video shared, they would have to request permission from the owner to access it.
